Bomnak Gapak wins 3rd Donli Riba Gaming Quest

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The inclination for video games among the youths in the state seems to be growing bigger every day, if the presence of as many as 64 game aficionados at the third edition of Donli Riba Gaming Quest 2012 is any indication.

The tournament is played in memory of Donli Riba a gifted musician and the grandson of former Chief Minister late Tomo Riba who died prematurely on this day of August 2009. The tournament is organized and managed by family and friends of the young musician, who himself was a keen video game player, here at Centre for Cultural Research and Documentation (CCRD), Naharlagun today.

60 matches were played in fixtures spread over a day-long Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 (PES12) schedule, on six PlayStation 2 consoles. The prime objective of tournament is to give opportunity to young people to excel in their skills and remove the negative perception of gaming. “Besides giving chance to young people to showcase their flair in gaming, the tournament tries to promote positive thinking in youth, and carry forward Donli’s dream of creating a vibrant space for youth",  informed tournament organisers. Bomnak Gapak of Vivekananda Central School Itanagar emerged as the winner and bagged the trophy with cash prize of Rs 11000,  while Rajesh Garam of Garden View School was adjudged runner up, taking home the cash prize of Rs 6000. Both the winner and runner up are students of class eight. The trophy and cash prizes were given away by lead vocalist of the rock band Alien Gods Olik Boko, himself a leading youth icon.

“I never thought video games can be a tournament, but finally I won the tournament! said an elated Bomnak Gapak. As part of the event, musical tributes were paid to late Donli by popular young musicians Mingu Bage and Orin Lego.

If one is to assess the response from both players and their guardians who thronged the venue since the morning hours, it becomes clear that the holding of an off-beat tournament on gaming skills has achieved two main ends. Firstly, it has created a space for video gaming as an alternate space for creativity and skills. More importantly, it has also contributed to changing the image of young adults from being seen as problem makers. The spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie seen at the event is a clear indication that given a chance, the youth in the state can excel. Video gaming has given them a window to emerge as individuals, to be recognized for their talent.

15 houses gutted in Pasighat

PASIGHAT, Aug 13: At least 15 houses were burnt to ashes near All India Radio Station, Pasighat known as Mirmir Charali at 12.30 am today. All household items including other properties were completely destroyed in the devastating fire. According to eye witnesses, an empty Fire tender reached the spot without water and failed to control the devastating fire.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the police.

Meanwhile, ADC SC Debnath, DRRO G Tsomu along with CO A Koyu rushed to the spot, met the victims and assessed the losses. Immediate relief was granted by the District Administration and Rs 3000 each was given to affected families. DIPRO

 

 

Lowangdong stresses on team effort for Tirap development

KHONSA, Aug 13: Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong asked HoDs of Tirap to work as ‘team Tirap’ under the able leadership of Tirap Deputy commissioner Sachin Shinde.

“Nothing could be achieved without team effort,” said Lowangdong  while interacting with the HoDs at Circuit House today. He told them to work harder with visionary zeal to catch up with the other more developed districts and leave a mark in the district in their respective fields. The Speaker said that he was fully alive to the problems of the HoDs adding that the elected leaders were working extra time to find out solutions to mitigate their problems.

Lowangdong appreciated the various developmental activities initiated by the Deputy Commissioner in the district and urged all HoDs to extend their whole-hearted support and co-operation to him. He expressed his deep concern over the chronic water scarcity problem faced by the residents of Khonsa township, especially in winter and enquired from the AE, PHED about the status of the water supply project for Khonsa. APDA to register protest against assault on doctors

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The Central Executive body of Arunachal Pradesh Doctors Association (APDA),  in an emergency meeting has decided to wear black badges on August 21 throughout the state as a mark of protest against repeated assault on doctors and medical personnel.

The recent  reported assault of a doctor (EMO) at Seppa District Hospital, East Kameng District and Anini, Dibang Valley District and molestation of a Nurse at Nacho CHC, Upper Subansiri District within the span of just 15 days is very distressing, said APDA in a release and condemned such act of violence in its strongest terms.  “IPCs and Cr PCs have failed to act as a deterrent and to protect staff from those people, who take law in their own hands,” APDA lamented. It appealed to the Health Minister and Parliamentary Secretary (Health) to take up the issues with the Chief Minister to enact Security Act against assault on Doctors as done in other States so that culprits can be dealt more effectively.

It is also a matter of sadness that Doctors are repeatedly assaulted while on duty. The attitude of the people towards the ‘healers’ need to change to see change in our ‘Health Care Delivery System’ in the state, the release said.

“How will any Doctor or Nurse or other Para-medical Staff be willing to serve in remote PHCs and Sub-Centres if this continues,”? APDA questioned

“APDA will be forced to take more drastic democratic form of protest in future if such assault on Doctors on Duty continues”, the release said.

 

 

AAU to impart technical knowledge to state’s farmers

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Considering the vast scope of bamboo cultivation and agriculture development in Arunachal Pradesh,  the Scientists of Assam Agriculture University (AAU), who attended a day-long programme on Bamboo Cultivation at Roing yesterday, have assured all sort of scientific and technical help from the University for all round development of the agriculture sector in the state in future.

Though Arunachal Pradesh has a vast scope for bamboo cultivation and huge agricultural potential, its potential could not be fully exploited due to lack of technical expertise, said Dr. TJ Ramesha of Roing KVK. He urged the team of scientista from AAU to come forward and encourage the farmers of the state by providing technical know-how.

Dr. R Das, Associate Professor, AAU, Jorhat explained the importance of bamboo in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem in the light of climate change while  Assistant Prof. H. Choudhury elaborated the improved management practises of bamboo.

Dr. K. Pathak, Senior scientist, AAU narrated the scope of bamboo and other annual crops for bringing large unutilised land of the state for efficient resource management.

The participating farmers interacted with scientist and enquired about the pros and cons of bamboo cultivation in Arunachal Pradesh. Tokmen Perme, a progressive farmer raised some pertinent issues regarding the present status of bamboo cultivation and other crops.

A field visit to  Iduli, Rukmo and Jia, where new plantation started under the NICRA-CRIDA sponsored project crop on adaptation strategies and carbon sequestration through bamboo plantation in unutilised soil of North East Region of India, was also organised as part of the programme.

Scientists Dr. Tulika and Helena demonstrated the practical way of planting bamboo during the field visit..

Popo Linggi, a senior citizen thanked the scientist from AAU and Dr. Ramesha for organizing the most important programme which benefit the bamboo growers a lot.

Altogether, 60 farmers including Farm women, rural educated youth, progressive farmer from Rukmo, Iduli and Jia areas participated in the programme.

 

 

IFCSAP calls for religious harmony

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) president Y.D. Thongchi appealed all the religious communities to maintain religious harmony and tolerance and preserve age-old tradition irrespective of their religious beliefs. He was speaking on the occasion of unfurling a Donyi-Polo flag on a pillar constructed by the Christian Community to mark the end of conflict between two religious groups at Sippi village of Upper Subansiri district yesterday.

He further said that in a secular country like ours, every individual has the right to embrace any religion of his choice, and no individual has any right to interfere in other community’s religious activities. He praised people of Sippi village belonging to both religious groups for amicable settlement of a conflict that arose after burning of a Donyi-Polo flag by some miscreant on July on 6. Speaking on the occasion, Gichik Taaza, General Secretary, IFCSAP, explained the aims and objectives of IFCSAP, which is engaged in protection and promotion of different indigenous faiths and religious believes to attain same supreme power which we know as God or Lord, Iswar, Allah or Donyi-Polo in different language.

Puluk Lida and Dikchu Raji, President and General Secretary of the Upper Subansiri district unit of IFCSAP also spoke on the occasion.

 

 

Livelihood school in Nampong on the cards

NAMPONG, Aug 13: Agriculture, Horticulture, Diary Development and Animal Husbandry Development Minister Setong Sena Sunday announced that Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has approved in principle the proposal to set up the first livelihood school in Nampong assembly constituency in Changlang district as part of his announcement to create one lakh employment during the next five years.

Sena told a public meeting here that he had officially visited Sikkim, leading a 10-member delegation, to inspect and see the success of such schools in hilly Sikkim which has many similarities with Arunachal Pradesh.

“Livelihood means to earn your bread and butter,” Sena said, adding that despite various development initiatives of the leaders, the problems of the society have been increasing. Why our children are suffering despite being very talented is a matter for all of us to ponder, he reasoned.

Terming unemployment as a burning global problem, he announced that the setting up of the school project is a fulfillment of the promise he had made during the 2009 election campaign.  “Seeing is believing,” he said, referring to his Sikkim experience.

The livelihood school will be outsourced to NYP, a reputed global voluntary organization headed by Gandhian Dr SN Subba Rao.

“This is the beginning and many more projects including agriculture and veterinary colleges are in the offing for the state,” the minister said, referring to his discussion with Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and senior officers of the ministry recently.

ADC M Roy, who had also visited Sikkim, gave an outline of the school and explained the benefits it would accrue to the society looking for opportunities to earn and end the growing unemployment problem.

He gave a number of suggestions, including engaging technical officers of various departments and involving the local administration with administrative control to tide over any immediate problem, but advocated making the project function as an autonomous body without any interference.

“Ideas rule the world,” said ZPM KN Tikhak, adding that the concept is timely and worth emulating.

Pointing out that the unemployed youths were victims of numerous avoidable problems created by lack of opportunities, ZPM Joyo Longri welcomed the concept as a path-breaking initiative.

Dissecting the socio-economic problems and the ground realities confronting the people of the area, former chairperson of Changlang zilla parishad, Izmir Tikhak, described the project as the ‘need of the hour’ that would serve as a silver lining in the dark cloud. He assured that the civil society would support in making the project a grand success.

Concerned at rise in the high-school dropout rate, particularly before Class XII, that has become the greatest liability for the society, public leader Abboo Kimsang cited the example of tea cultivation which has contained the unemployment problem to some extent. He expressed hope that Sena’s initiative would become a reality soon.

National Youth Project (NYP) president Hari Pado Biswas and vice president Pradeep Kumar described in detail the concept of livelihood schools, besides the activities of the NYP, which during the last three years has provided skill development training to over 25,000 people through its 47 functional centres in the state.

No government can provide 100% employment to its people, they said, adding, however, that with huge fertile land resource and active working manpower available in the state there was no reason why the people could not be self-employed if they decided to do so. With Stillwell road likely to soon link India - via Changlang-Pangsau Pass in Myanmar - with South East Asia where 50% of world’s rich live, there would be huge opportunities and markets that would boost the local economy here. It is time to wake up and get equipped with the required skills and knowledge to grab the opportunities, they added.

Besides the NYP team including Lamai Tingwa and Sangita Thapa, who arrived here at the invitation of the minister, officers including SDO Gautam Hazarika attended the meeting.

One nabbed, pistol recovered

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Banderdewa Police and CRPF personnel apprehended a person, namely, Dana Tanang for illegally carrying arms and ammunition at Banderdewa check gate today.

A US made automatic pistol alongwith 3 live ammunition were recovered from his possession by police, capital SP Hibu Tamang said in a release. A suo-motto case vide Banderdewa PS C/No. 30/12 U/S 25 1(A) 1 (B) of Arms Act has been registered and investigation launched.

 

 

IDEA’s training programme for the SHG leaders about Bank Linkage & Record Maintenance

ITANAGAR, Aug 13:  The Itanagar Diocesan Empowerment Association conducted for a one day awareness programme for the SHG Leaders on Bank Linkage and Record maintenance at Sacred Heart School Daporijo recently in collaboration with Rural Bank Daporijo supported by KFB Austria.

Sr. Rose Mary SABS, the IDEA co-ordinator Daporijo took class on Record maintenance for the SHG Leaders of Daporijo, Taliha and Siyum. She introduced the SHG leaders the importance of keeping the records. One of the main failures we see in the SHGs is the lack of proper accounts management and keeping of financial records. To run a business or set up the group smoothly they need how to maintain records systematically, she said.

During the session she taught them to maintain proper records of all the happenings. Through different methodology of the training she taught how to write the Minute Book, Attendance Register, Cash Book, Ledger and Individual Pass Books.          

For the second session Sr. Rose Mary SABS welcomed Shri.Tamok Gammeng, the Branch Manager of A.P. Rural Bank Daporijo, Shri. Mejjo ETE, the Asst. Branch Manager, A.P. Rural Bank, Daporijo, Rev. Fr. Anto Thomas Principal of Sacred Heart School Daporijo, Mr. Tabu Duchok  IDEA Animator Taliha, and all the SHG Leaders.

Speaking on the occasion Tamok Gammeng the Branch Manager A.P. Rural Bank Daporijo highlighted the importance of having Bank Linkage. He mentioned the different categorizes of loans that we can receive through bank. He also emphasized on the importance of Repayments of Loans.

.Mejjo ETE, the Asst. Branch Manager of A.P. Rural Bank Daporijo also spoke on the occasion and clarified the doubts of the participants. He encouraged the SHG leaders to build up good relationship with the Bank. He also mentioned about the usefulness of money keeping in the bank and how it is channelized to different levels of people.

Fr. Anto Thomas the Principal of Sacred Heart School Daporijo also spoke to the SHG leaders  to be united and work hard for the growth of the group.

The participants were very keen in clarifying the doubts about the Bank Linkage and Loan Recovery.

Induction training prog for BRC functionaries

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The first phase of an induction training programme for the functionaries of Block Resource Centre (BRC) from Arunachal Pradesh was organized at the National Institute of Rural Development, North Eastern Regional Centre, Guwahati from August 6 to 11.

Altogether 36 Block Coordinators from districts, namely Lohit, Upper Siang, Tirap, Longding, East Siang, Lower Subansiri, East Kameng, Papum Pare and the capital Itanagar attended the raining programme.

The training programme covered wide ranging topics on Water quality and water testing, involvement of community in development, sanitation and water related diseases, principles of community health- issues and concepts, Panchayat Raj institutes’ role and responsibilities, MIS, basic computer skill, behaviour change communication, water conservation and rain water harvesting, development of water scarcity plan involving community, social audit, Nirmal Gram Puraskar etc through audio visual aids which were much more relevant and appropriate for all the north eastern states. Apart from the theoretical classes, for wider exposure, the trainees were taken to Sanitation Park and Laboratory, WSSO, Betkuchi, Guwahati for one day field visit to make the programme more effective.

Attending the valedictory session on August 11 T.Ete, Secretary, PHED highlighted the importance of water conservation and rain water harvesting and the quality and testing of drinking water which are much more relevant and appropriate for north east and more specially for the state of Arunachal Pradesh. He urged all the block coordinators to be sensitive and help building a clean and healthy society through community involvement without whose participation nothing can be achieved. He later distributed the certificates to the candidates and highly appreciated the programme.

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The Likha Welfare Society (LWS), Itanagar has felicitated its meritorious students who excelled in CBSE Class X and Class-XII examination 2012 in a glittering function held at Naharlagun on  August 11. Among the meritorious students who were felicitated were, Likha Yameen Class-XII (Commerce .88%),  Likha Nana, Class-XII(Huminity.77%),  Likha Jelly, Class-XII(Science.68%), Likha  Jernia Class-X 8.8 CGPA and Likha Nima, Class X 8.8 CGPA.

Director of Higher & Technical Education Dr.Joram Begi  gave away the mementoes and cash prizes to the toppers. While congratulating the toppers and proud parents, Begi urged the parents to guide their children in right direction as the real education starts from the family itself. He said “if you (parents) are guiding your children in right direction it means you are investing in your children’s future as well as your future in right way.” “Sometimes giving copiously money to the children leads to obstruction of their academic career,” he added.

He further exhorted the students to work hard. “Nothing can be achieved easily without hard working in this competitive age. There can be no substitute for the hardwork in life,” he added.

Parliamentary Secretary Likha Saaya as a senior member of the Society and proud parents of Likha Yameen, urged other parents to give priority to their children’s education.  While congratulating the topper students,  he advised  them to keep it up. “This success should be considered as beginning.  If you are laborious many more successes will touch your feet,” he said. Training on capacity building for PRIs

PASIGHAT, Aug 13: A three-day training program on capacity building for elected representatives and functionaries of the Panchayati Raj Institute (PRI) under RGSY was formally inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra at the Town Club here today.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said the mammoth exercise was aimed at instilling a sense of self-belief and empowerment among the elected representatives so that they could effectively prioritize and decide autonomously on various issues of rural developments. According to him it was a special campaign of the state government which is being conducted by the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) for better implementation of the govt. schemes and projects like Decentralized Planning, Rural Development, good governance, basic computer awareness, stress management, MGNREGA, PMGSY, Saksharta Mission, etc. Apart from this, the focus would be on toning up the mannerisms, attitude, motivational levels and self-esteem of the elected representatives so as to upgrade their public dealing skills, added Mishra.

SC Debnath ADC cum DPDO stressed on modernization of the system with the help of modern tools of science and technology. He urged all to attend the training with full dedication and sincerity. The members of Gram-Sabha should clear their doubts to build a strong society, advised Debnath.

Orientation prog on disaster management

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The Department of Disaster Management, Seijosa branch organized an orientation programme on Disaster Management for Disaster Management Committee members and stakeholders on August 9 and 10.

The programme aimed at imparting knowledge, develop skill and reorient committee members to discharge their assigned duties in an efficient manner while they are deployed for Disaster Management. Most importantly, this has been organized to underscore the importance of having a disaster management plan and standard operation procedures to manage any crisis effectively.

Attending the programme, Seijosa ADC, Tayek Pado said that Seijosa being a flood  prone are needs a comprehensive Disaster Management Plan to deal with any kind of situation. Expressing his gratitude to officer in charge for organizing such informative workshops highlighted the need of preparedness and mass awareness among the rural masses through which the loss of lives can be minimized.

The Field Officer (DM), Seijosa emphasized on a comprehensive insurance policy for the people of the disaster prone areas and creating mass awareness on dos and don’ts during pre, during and post disasters period.

The workshop was attended by around 215 participants from all line departments, police personnel, scouts and Guides, PRI members, GBs, teachers and students.

 

 

AMYAA NGO promotes income generation activities for SHGs

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The Roing based NGO Alombro Mayu Yaku Chi Amey Aroga (AMYAA) NGO imparted meat pickle making training to Gamro SHG members of Midland village, Roing of Lower Dibang Valley district. Practical session on how to make quality meat and fish pickles were given to 10 active women by resource person R. K. Paul Chawang, Secretary AMYAA.

It is worth mentioning here that Gamro SHG has taken up pickle making as one of its income generation activities.

Rural women in the district are gradually becoming more and more conscious of the importance of SHG for their empowerment through socio-economic development.

Under the guidance of AMYAA, various existing SHGs are being trained to take up one or more income generating activities of their interest since there is high demand for locally made items like pickles, mushroom, dry flowers, detergent powder, candle etc.

AMYAA urged the concern authorities of the District to acknowledge and encourage the efforts of the SHGs by providing space and opportunities for sale cum exhibition of the products on official events such as Republic Day, Independence Day and Statehood Day celebrated both at local and national levels.

 

 

West Siang celebrates National Librarians’ Day

Aalo, Aug 13: The National Librarians’ Day was observed at District Library Hall in a befitting manner yesterday..

Attending the programme, Gijum Tali, DIPRO urged the Library department to make the first ever meet of its kind as an annual event in the district as Library is a place where children get easy access to choice of books. In this globalized world quest for learning would be a never ending process and young minds should be diverted towards treasure troves of beautiful stories, anecdotes, literature and science to create feeling of love and humanity to become good citizen, he said.

Jumbom Ete, DRO Aalo stressed on Library Movement to inculcate reading habits among the young generation.

Earlier, DLIO Y. Kena outlined the brief history of Library Movement in India and paid floral tribute to Father of Library science S.K. Ranganathanji on his birth anniversary.

Duda Sora, President ATA West Siang district unit, teachers and Library Assistants from Aalo and Kaying spoke in details on value of library and its readership.

Extempore speech and essay writing competitions were conducted among the students to mark the occasion. Prizes to the winners were distributed by Tali.

The Librarian's Day in Lohit district was celebrated at District Library, Tezu on Sunday last in a small but befitting manner.

Essay writting competitions were organized among senior and junior student on the topics 'Importance of Library' and 'Joy of Reading'.

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: With one month on since ‘The Arunachal Times’ Associate Editor Tongam Rina was shot at and police is yet to make any breakthrough in the case, the members of Arunachal Press Club and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists, in a meeting here on Monday decided to abstain from reporting the Independence Day celebrations as a mark of protest against the State govt’s inaction. However, it was decided that official reports from Govt agencies on I-Day celebrations will be entertained.

 

Governor’s XI to lock horns with CM’s XI

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: A friendly football match between Governor’s XI and Chief Minister’s XI is being organised by Department of Sports and Youth Affairs at Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy playground on August 15 at 2.30 as part of the Independence Day celebration.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki himself would lead his team as captain while the Governor’s XI would be led by Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Tape Bagra. MP Takam Sanjoy and Capital Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goel are the vice captains of CM’s XI and Governor’s XI respectively.

 

Panchayat Ghar opens

ITANAGAR, Aug 13:  Parliamentary Secretary CC Singpho inaugurated the  newly constructed Panchayat Ghar  at Kherem Mura village today amidst the gatherings of Govt. officers, PRI members and general public.

The Project Implementing Agency BDO Bordumsa briefed about the project which was funded under TFC 2011-12 from Panchayat Directorate.

 

‘Allegations false and fabricated’

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Reacting to a news item under the heading “Complaint lodged” published in this daily on August 12 issue, Tai Tassung and Bangram Bagang clarified that they were unanimously selected as chairman and general secretary of the Banderdewa Area Development Core Committee (BADCC) in a meeting on August 1.

Describing the allegations levelled against them as false, fabricated and baseless, both Tai Tassung and Bangram Bagang in their separate statements said that they were never involved in such illegal activity as published.

Claiming himself innocent, Tassung, who also is vice president of Banderdewa Bazar Welfare Committee, threatened legal action against those involved in defaming his name without any valid reason.

Bagang in his statement said that the committee was reconstituted unanimously in view of the resignation of the sitting chairman of the committee (BADCC) Kipa Hipik.

 

Training prog on capacity building

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: A one day training programme to build capacity of farm women was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Lower Dibang  Valley at Agam Gite village recently.

Theoretical classes on selection of raw materials, processing and preservation of vegetables and fruits were conducted by  subject matter specialist as resource person.

Apart from this, demonstrations on preparation of pickle from locally available resources like tender and fermented bamboo shoots, ginger and Assam lemon were organized. A film show on active involvement of farm women in preparation of  value added products from Garlic and Mango was also held.                     

The farm women were also briefed about mandated activities of KVK and  encouraged them to avail technical facilities to increase their farm production.

A total of 28 farm women participated in the programme.

 

AAPTWA pleads for ST certificate to Deori tribe

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: All Arunachal Pradesh Tribal Welfare Association (AAPTWA) in a memorandum to the Chief Minister appealed him to take necessary steps for issuance of  Schedule Tribe (ST) certificate to Deori tribe residing in Arunachal Pradesh since time immemorial.

Referring to Govt notifications including the Constitution (Schedule Tribe) order, 1950, report of the administration of NE India 1921-22,  and ST certificates issued to Deoris prior to 1990, the Association said that Deori tribe of Arunachal Pradesh has been considered as tribal of Arunachal.  Even in the population census right from 1961, Deori people were recorded as tribal of Arunachal Pradesh, the Association said adding that they have been participating in panchayat elections  and many of them elected in Panchayat bodies.

 

Disruption in power supply

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The electrical consumers of Itanagar, Naharlagun and adjoining areas would witness electricity problems due to low transformation capacity of Balipara Grid sub-station power transformer on account of  Railway Gauge conversion from August 17 to 24 from 8hrs-16hrs on daily basis.

The EE, State Load Dispatch Center Division, Department of Power regretted the inconvenience caused to the consumers.

 

U-17 & U-10 categories included in DK Memorial State Open Badminton C’ship

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Two more categories have been included in the 1st Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Open Badminton Championship” -2012 starting August 20 next.

The organising committee has included the U-10  and U-17 categories, both for girls and boys, in the state level tournament.

This exercise has been done as per mandatory guidelines issued by the Badminton Association of India for conducting any state level tournament.

Middle Chimpu FC enter final

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Middle Chimpu FC  beat Police Colony FC by solitary goal and entered into the final of the 8th Independence Running Football Tournament today.

The all important goal was scored by Toko Tapa in 30th minutes.

The winner of the 2nd semi-final match to be played between Lokam Brothers FC and All Chimpu Association tomorrow at 3 pm will meet Middle Chimpu FC in the final.

 

Ruksin gears up for I-Day

RUKSIN, Aug 13: Preparations are afoot to hold the Independence Day (I-day) at Ruksin sub-divisional headquarter in East Siang district on August 15 next. “Community feast” with traditional food among the participants would be a special attraction of this year’s  I- day celebration here, which is contributed by the officials, public leaders and Gaonburahs of Ruksin circle.

The Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Ruksin T Jonnom, who is taking over the SDO charge in the sub division, informed that a coordination meeting was held recently and chalked out the programmes for celebrating the Independence Day. As such, charter of duties and responsibilities have been assigned to all officials, PR members and public leaders

The national tricolour will be hoisted by the local MLA Tangor Tapak.

 

Massive Cleanliness Drive

Aalo, Aug 13:  A massive Social Service was organized by Urban Development and Housing Department at Paktu Bango Market area on August 11 as part of Independence Day celebration.

The district administration, 19 Grenadiers of Army, Market Committees and Police personnel actively participated in the social service. The Army Provided all essential equipments for the social service and fire tenders were pressed into service for clearing the drainages.

APWWS Dumporijo unit extends support to NMM

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society Dumporijo unit has strongly supported the demand made by the Nari Mukti Manch to introduce a Special law against Polygamy in the state.

Sex adultery or polygamy is a disease like cancer which is incurable but slowly and innerly damage the strong peaceful foundation of the ‘family kingdom’, the Dumporijo unit of APWWS said and thanked the NMM for highlighting the facts.

 

Post Medical Officer

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: All Libo Bokar Ramo Students’ Union in a representation to Director, Health and Family Welfare highlighted the public grievances due to non posting of Medical Officer.

The union said that PHCs in Mechukha subdivision are running without medical officer for the last many decades particularly in Monigong and Tato PHCs.

It appealed to the Director to post Medical Officer at Mechukha Subdivision immediately.

 

Regularize SSA non-teaching staff

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Arunachal Pradesh Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Contractual Employees Association in a letter to Education Minister said, the non teaching staff under SSA establishment in the state are performing their respective duties with dedication and serving the state without any service security in their present post.

So in order to boost up up the moral of the magisterial staff of SSA establishment, the association appealed to the minister to redressed the grievances and initiate regularization process of non teaching staff serving under SSA on base wise and seniority basis immediately.

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Bazar Welfare Committee, Banderdewa, government staff and general public of Banderdewa organized cleanliness drive at Banderdewa today.

Meanwhile, Bazar Welfare Committee Banderdewa President Kipa Loram said Banderdewa being the entry point of state capital; emphasis should be given by the departments of the state to keep the town neat and clean. He further said that each department should have at least yearly facelift scheme/project at Banderdewa to beautify the entry point of the state capital.

 

APCC revokes expulsion

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee, President Mukut Mithi has revoked the expulsion of many ZPMs, Anchal Chairpersons, ASMs, Gram Chairpersons, GPMs and Workers of 4-Dirang and 6-Thrizino Buragaon Assembly Constituencies, West Kameng District.

Earlier, they were expelled by APCC in the year 2009.

 

Arrest the culprit

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Bogum Ao Foundation in a letter to Parliamentary Secretary (Home) appealed for immediate arrest of culprit involved in the alleged murder of late Samuel Koyu, Head constable (T) APP at Jone Korong area recently.

It urged the parliamentary secretary to interfere in the case and issue a stern order to accelerate the investigation and nab the culprit.

It further appealed to the state government to pay compensation and offer a government service to his widow on compassionate ground.

 

5th Youth Foundation Day of CRC Doimukh observed

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The Youth fellowship of Christian Revival Church (CRC) Doimukh has observed its 5th Foundation day in a befitting manner at CRC Doimukh.

The APCRCC vice-president Dr. David Pertin exhorted the gathering to be cautious about the evil elements and to lead a prayerful life.

ACRYA president Evan. Dr. Joram Dol attending as the foundation day Speaker dwelt in length on the theme verse from the Bible I Peter 5: 8, focussed on being firm in one’s spiritual foundation in Christ and urged the youths to shoulder responsibilities in bringing good changes in the society. He appealed the youths to redeem the time and not waste the opportunities in life for the good cause.

The  day-long event marked Water baptism, Lord’s Supper, Praise and worship, biblical discourses, prayers, songs and dances, cake-cutting and a community feast. CCPF demands revocation of Govt order

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Capital Complex Peoples’ Forum in a letter to Chief Minister appealed that government order DC/LRB-0492/2005 dated 20th June 2005 be immediately withdrawn and cancelled without any condition, all the land allotment process should be given free hand to the department of land management, government of Arunachal Pradesh and land allotment already under process should be immediately allotted to every individual.

It further appealed for immediate creation of Municipal Corporation in capital complex and cancellation of shifting of green Airfield from Karsingsa to Hollongi. It said that Hollongi is not conducive for Airport as the area falls under interstate boundary.

65 ‘Independent’ Years

“Agar mehnat karoge, jee lagaoge, agar inhe meetha paani de doge, to thodi bahut chori kar sakte ho, dakait nahi daloge (If  you work hard and able to provide drinking water, you can steal a little, but you must not behave like dacoits). Undeniably, these ‘pearls of wisdom’ by UP’s PWD Minister Shivpal Yadav underscore the tragic testimony of 65 years of Independent India where corruption is the religion. Whereby, public funds translate in to apna money, money!

Questionably, as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh unfurls the tiranga at Delhi’s Red Fort tomorrow, the aam aadmi is wondering: What are our leaders celebrating?  That in their ‘collective wisdom’ all have desecrated, vandalized Mera Bharat Mahan?  And reduced people’s aspirations to perspiration and one-upmanship?  Turning the voice of the masses into an invoice for themselves — money, power and kursi?

Shockingly, instead of atoning for their sins of omission and commission, our rulers brazenly and blatantly continue to plunder and how! Sans any remorse, their in-your-face dacoity is backed by an unmatched and unashamed arrogance of catch-me-if-you-can.

The latest example being Haryana’s former Home Minister Gopal Kanda who rose from being a small-time street vendor of rubber slippers in Sirsa district to owning an airline and real estate multi-millionaire in a span of 10 short years. Thanks to his ‘closeness’ to politicians.

Why single him out? Remember Suraj Mandal, who blew the whistle in the JMM case in 1996. Asserted he: “Paisa boriyon main ata hai, gathriyon main nahin.” Alas, as the 2 G scandal, Coalgate, mining scam et al   show over 90 per cent of our polity is tarred by the same brush, be it at the Centre or States. A cursory glance of their wealth disclosures to the Election Commission every election underscore the brutal reality.

None work in any 9-5 job, do office work; private business yet amasses huge wealth. All ‘earned’ by seva of the garib janata. Read bribes for everything — from getting a ration card to income-tax, SC certificates et al. Thus legalizing corruption and putting their seal of approval on the culture of plunder. Clearly, when gold speaks, all tongues are silent!

Worse, with Gandhian Anna Hazare disbanding his Team and the Government studiously ignoring Baba Ramdev’s demands on black money and Lokpal bill at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan one can kiss goodbye to our polity’s pious protestations on having a Lokpal. Confessed a senior MP, “Sab mangtai hai ek sashakt Bill but chup-chap kahte hain bhai galle main phansi kyoin daal rahe ho. Pass maat karna hum sab ka bhalaa hoga.”

Unmistakably, something fundamental is wrong which makes the Government incapable of dealing with simple matters and complex issues. The Prime Minister lacks authority, has no control over his Ministers who do as they please. Nor does he enjoy his Party’s confidence, Congress President Sonia who has no views on anything and heir apparent Rahul Gandhi is “work in progress”.

Thereby, underscoring the inherent weakness of the personal arrangement between Singh as Government head and Sonia as Party Chief with the Party refusing to heed him. As a result, the Administration lacks a clear leadership structure, and functions as a confused babble of vested interests, egos and animosities. Alas, neither Sonia nor Manmohan Singh seems willing or capable of stemming the rot.

Things have come to such a sorry pass that credit rating firm Moody has not only downgraded growth rate to 5.5% but squarely blamed “a weak Central Government that has badly lost its way…creating instability. Divided leadership at the Centre may be the biggest hurdle… Paramount political power rests with Sonia Gandhi… while the Government is led by an unelected Prime Minister, who lacks a political base of his own.” Plainly, for all practical purposes, Sonia-Manmohan Singh seem to have lost the plot.

Socially too, things are depressing. Six decades after Independence, after spending trillions on education, health and food over 700 millions live below the poverty line and continue to be hungry, illiterate, unskilled and bereft of basic medical care. Borne out by rising farmers’ suicides, despite doles by the Prime Minister.  

More shocking, the Planning Commission which grandiosely announced Rs 32 per day was enough to keep body and soul together for a family of five, has spent over Rs 38 lakhs to renovate four toilets for 60-odd VIP’s in Yojna Bhawan! No matter, millions use fields for their daily chores.

The other ‘flush’ idea, is to give mobiles to 6 million BPL families costing Rs 7000 crores. Exposing the dichotomy between Power India and Asli Bharat. Arguably, how will “Har Haath Mein Phone” eradicate the daily aggravation of being bin bijli aur paani, sky rocketing prices, unemployment, increasing poverty and the ever-demanding ghooskhori?

On the obverse, look how hundreds of crores of the tax payers hard-earned money is spent by our netagan on  protecting themselves. Example: Over Rs 250 crores is spent only on protecting 400 plus VIPs annually. It matters little whether these worthies face no risk or at best little risk yet they refuse to budge without the elaborate security paraphernalia.

In Delhi alone, over 14,200 policemen are deployed on round-the-clock VIP security duty —— Special Protection Group for the top of the ladder, followed by Z-plus provided by NSG “black cats” consisting of six personal security officers, two head constables, 12 constables, in a cavalcade of AK47 toting ‘black cats’ in a convoy of cars including one pilot vehicle with ‘lal batti.’  Then come the minions with Z (68 VIPs), Y (243) and X (81) categories. Salaam Independent India’s new Maharajas!

The most striking aspect of their feudal mentality is that our netagan have collectively subordinated national interest to personal egos and aggrandisement. Thus, undermining further the people’s eroding faith in democracy as a desirable system. Even as all the Parties blame each other for the present state of affairs.

What next? Events have their own momentum. Arguably, one can say this is what democracy is all about. However, few remember that democracy is not an end in itself but only a means for the peoples’ well-being through an honest and stable Government run by dedicated leaders committed to the country. Not ram-shackled coalitions of fair-weather partners in corruption and crime.

The writing is on the wall. Our polity needs to recognize that they must deserve before they can desire, else become increasingly irrelevant. The people want change. He is not willing to stand as a mute spectator while the country gets vandalized by our jan sevaks and their  goondas.

As a Chinese saying goes in every crises lies an opportunity. As we celebrate 65 years of Independence our leaders need to realize, when politics degrades itself to political adventurism, India would be on the calamitous road to inevitable disaster and ruination. Let us not risk it. It is time to introspect….so that India can grow as a mature, healthy, vibrant democratic nation.  What gives? —— INFA

Sports education

Be it at the grass-root level in schools, semi-professional coaching academies or elite clubs for the top level, efforts are being made to promote sports. In fact, sports personalities, coaching centres and leading companies are making their own contributions to the field of sports.

In a latest development, Tata Consultancy Services and HDFC have collaborated to invest in a sports education start-up. More than a decade ago, both the organizations had developed a joint venture called Intelenet for business process outsourcing.

In promoting sports education in schools, the Kids Out Of Home prog is expected to equip schools with a blend of structured curriculum, technology and infrastructure to motivate kids to come out and play.

It is believed that India has no dearth of sportsperson. But to  train the sportspersons, India needs more and more trained coaches to give athletes tips and shortcuts to attain maximum performance with less amount of work.  The key here is for Indian sportspersons to train harder, faster and more importantly, smarter! This is only possible when trainers who have formal education and training in sports education take the responsibility  with determined mind to produce  excellent sportspersons.
